Endorsements for the May Primary

ACRP Oversight Committee Action
With the petitions filed for candidates in the 2026 Republican primary races for the 2026 election, the Ashtabula County Republican Party (ACRP) Executive Committee tasked their Oversight Committee to process and review candidates for the offices of 11th District Court of Appeals (term start date of 2-9-2027): Judge Marisa Cornachio and Judge David Engler; and the 14th U. S. Congressional race between Dave Joyce (Incumbent) and Niki Frenchko.
The ACRP Oversight Committee required the candidates to fill out a mandatory questionnaire and an optional BCI background check. In addition, the Oversight Committee also conducted public records searches, news articles, social media profiles, court records, property and business searches, and additional information submitted by those personally and professionally familiar with the candidates.
Once the materials submitted by the candidates were received, they were reviewed by the five (5) members on the Oversight Committee, and their findings were reported back to the Executive Committee for consideration of an endorsement from our governing body.
The following recommendations were discussed and voted on by the Executive Committee at our March 5th meeting:
For the office of the 11th District Court of Appeals (term start date of 2-9-2027), Judge Marisa Cornachio was unanimously endorsed as the candidate that best defines our conservative values and represents prudent law and order principles.
Judge Cornachio has extensive experience serving in multiple capacities within the legal system prior to being elected Judge in 2018. Her law experience includes real estate, criminal, civil, traffic, and juvenile cases as well as prosecuting cases for the Lake County Common Pleas courts. Judge Cornachio is also a member in good standing on several committees and civic organizations within her community.
For the 14th U.S. Congressional District, the Executive Committee, following the lead of President Trump, unanimously endorsed Congressman Dave Joyce to retain his seat.
Congressman Joyce has served his current capacity since being elected in 2013, and prior to that was Prosecutor in Geauga County from 1988 to 2013.
“As elected leaders of our party, we have an obligation to thoroughly vet those who want to run under the GOP banner. We take the endorsement process very seriously. Our Oversight Committee does the work that so many primary voters do not have the time to do, spending dozens of hours reviewing the candidates. If endorsements were made, they were made for good reason,” stated the ACRP Chairman Charlie Frye.
