Sheriff's Office FOP Lodge 106 Votes No Confidence in Prosecutor O'Toole
You can read the Star Beacon Article here.
In an unprecedented vote, the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office Fraternal Order of Police unanimously voted No Confidence in County Prosecutor Colleen O’Toole.
“Members unanimously agreed that Prosecutor O’Toole has lost all trust and confidence of the Lodge members of the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.”
The Sheriff’s FOP works most closely with the Prosecutor’s Office and has the most involvement with Prosecutor O’Toole. As their resolution reads:
“Our criminal cases have been affected by a lack of trial preparation from her office; constant and unprecedented staff turnover in her office; the treatment of crime victims by her office; the lack of communication of case statuses by her office; the lack of input by investigating officers in plea negotiations and the individual disrespect she personally displays to all law enforcement, and the Policing Profession as a whole.”
We demand Prosecutor O’Toole’s resignation as she is not fit for her important office as Prosecutor in Ashtabula County.
Their Resolution is as follows:
“On May 16th, 2023, Deputies of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 106 held a vote of “no confidence” for Ashtabula County Prosecutor Colleen O’Toole. Members unanimously agreed that Prosecutor O’Toole has lost all trust and confidence of the Lodge members of the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.
This is the first time in the recorded history of the lodge members of the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office that its members have taken such action against a public official. The purpose of the Lodge has nothing to do with elected official(S) and/or what political party they belong to. Our lodge has a very strong history of giving back to our community. This alone should show how serious the Deputies of FOP Lodge # 106 are regarding the conduct of Prosecutor O’Toole.
The Deputies of FOP Lodge # 106 strongly believe they have a responsibility to inform our neighbors of our county when there are serious circumstances that affect their individual and collective safety. We believe that the actions of Prosecutor O’Toole rise to that level; we believe that all the Citizens of Ashtabula County, regardless of what city, village and/or township they reside in are not safe with her in office.
The Deputies of FOP Lodge # 106 are aware of the recent 33-page complaint authored by the Republican Party regarding Prosecutor O’Toole’s conduct in office. While our Deputies had no part in authoring that complaint, we have personally witnessed and experienced the incidents set forth in it. Our criminal cases have been affected by a lack of trial preparation from her office; constant and unprecedented staff turnover in her office; the treatment of crime victims by her office; the lack of communication of case statuses by her office; the lack of input by investigating officers in plea negotiations and the individual disrespect she personally displays to all law enforcement, and the Policing Profession as a whole.
During her time in office, Prosecutor O’Toole has acted in opposition to Law Enforcement, rather than as a partner with the common goal of making our community safer and protecting our victims. These actions are not acceptable conduct for any elected official. All Law Enforcement Officers of our community must have better leadership from the Ashtabula County Prosecutor.”
