Statements Regarding the Governor's Veto of H.B. 68
United Republicans from around the state of Ohio
Below are statements by A UNITED REPUBLICAN PARTY regarding Governor DeWine’s VETO on H.B. 68
"I am very disappointed in the Governor's veto of House Bill 68, the Save Women's Sports Act. Allowing biological males to compete in women's sports is dangerous and unfair to women. I will vote to override the Governor's veto."
- State Senator Sandra O'Brien
"The Republican party is home to millions of conservatives. We expect our Republican elected officials to defend American Values and not cave into WOKE shaming! I am disappointed by the Governor's veto of the SAFE Act. Protecting our children from absurd indoctrination should be as natural as breathing! I expect that the supermajority Republican-controlled State Legislature will override this veto and make H.B. 68 law".
- Charlie Frye, Chairman of the Ashtabula County Republican Party
“The Republican Party overwhelmingly supports HB 68 evidenced by the supermajority who voted to put this on the Governor’s desk. I urge Republicans to come together to protect children, girls and to either override this veto or pass similar legislation without delay.”
- Alex Triantafilou, Chairman Ohio Republican Party
“HB 68 is about virtually all girls and women, who should be able to compete in fair, safe competition—not about the tiny sliver of transgender athletes. The remainder of the bill is not about medical decisions but about the permanency and timing of those decisions. Kids should be kids, and are not ready to make forever decisions--a minor cannot even enter into a legally binding contract in Ohio. Isn’t a non-reversible surgery or medical treatment more important? The Governor’s veto was a mistake.”
- Dave Yost, State of Ohio Attorney General
“We should protect girls’ sports and prioritize securing parental rights in the state of Ohio. I will support the efforts by members of the General Assembly to override the Governor’s veto.”
-Robert Sprague, State of Ohio Treasurer
"I’m disappointed in the Governor’s decision. I hope the General Assembly overrides his veto of the SAFE Act. This is a common-sense law that protects fairness in girls’ sports as well as Ohio’s children from permanent medical procedures."
- Keith Faber, State of Ohio Auditor
“This is a slogan, not a justification. There are many things the law rightfully says no one, including parents, may do to children. This slogan also ignores the extraordinary pressure from interest groups and big pharma to green light poorly understood, irreversible procedures. I’m extremely disappointed in the governor’s decision and hope it is overridden.”
- J.D. Vance, United States Senator
“I am disappointed that Governor DeWine vetoed HB68. This is very simple. We have a duty to protect safety and fair competition for female athletes and to protect children from being subjected to permanent, life-altering medical procedures before the age of 18. The state legislature should do the right thing and override this veto!”
- Frank LaRose, Ohio Secretary of State and candidate for the United States Senate
“Allowing young kids to get sex change surgeries and be subjected to experimental drugs like puberty blockers that can sterilize them for the rest of their lives is child abuse. I'm calling on the Ohio Legislature to immediately override this veto and protect Ohio's children.”
- Bernie Moreno, Candidate for the United States Senate
